Pride of Cincinnati

About the winter guard. . .

The Pride of Cincinnati exists to offer young people a quality educational and performance experience, which in turn develops them into culturally enriched, caring, motivated, responsible, and goal oriented adults. These lessons are learned through an activity in which there is a blending of the arts and athletics called winter guard.

The Pride of Cincinnati Foundation is registered as a Not-for-Profit youth athletic organization and is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors.

What is Winter Guard?

Winter guard utilizes the flags, rifles, sabers and dance traditionally associated with marching bands and drum corps and puts them in an indoor setting. This activity combines the beauty and pageantry of dance, the drama of theater, and the precision of marching band into one production. Pride participates in competitions with Winter Guard International (WGI).

In the winter guard arena, Pride strives to set standards within the color guard activity while maintaining a positive experience for the members and audience alike. From being one of the first color guards to use a floor covering, to exhilarating championship performances, members have always displayed the joy of performing and grown from the challenge of working as a team.

Currently, this color guard thrills and inspires audiences at local shows in the TriState Marching Arts Organization and MEPA. Pride of Cincinnati also participates in several WGI sponsored regional contests. These regional contests lead to the WGI World Championships, held in April every year. Look at our Schedule page to find a Pride performance near you.

The Pride of Cincinnati has been a perennial finalist in the WGI Independent World Class. Pride was also the Winter Guard International Independent World Class Champions, winning a record 7 World Championships (2001, 2005, 2007, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2019)!
